Left-handed batter Kyle Mayers has been officially approved as the replacement for the injured Brandon King in the West Indies 2024 T20 World Cup squad, the ICC said in a statement on Friday (June 21).
Mayers, who has played 37 T20Is, was named as a replacement after King was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a side strain. King suffered the injury while batting against England on Wednesday (June 19) and had to retire out on 23. West Indies lost the game by 8 wickets.
Mayers is expected to join the squad on Saturday, ahead of the hosts’ final Super 8s game against South Africa on June 23.
West Indies next Super 8s fixture is against co-hosts USA, on Friday (June 21).
