David Miller has been handed an official reprimand and one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during a Super 8s Group 2 match against England in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Miller was guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an international match.”
The incident occurred in the penultimate over of South Africa’s innings where Miller played a full toss from Sam Curran and expected it to be called a ‘no ball’ for height. Upon not being given a no-ball, the South Africa batter showed his displeasure by signalng for a review of the decision whereas it could not have been reviewed.
This was Miller’s first offence in a 24-month period, which the batter admitted to, and duly accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. Therefore, no formal hearing was needed.
On-field umpires Chris Brown and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth umpire Chris Gaffaney levelled the charge.
South Africa are currently atop the Group 2, with two wins in as many games. They will play their last Super 8s fixture against hosts West Indies on Sunday (June 23).
